The Lagos State Police Command has apprehended four individuals allegedly involved in a visa scam worth N500 million.
In a statement released on Wednesday, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, revealed that the suspects were arrested by officers from the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID).
The case was initially reported at the Ago Okota Police Division before being transferred to SCID for a more detailed investigation.
Preliminary investigations show that the suspects, aged between 23 and 36, are employees of an educational consultancy firm located in the Ago Okota area of Lagos. They are accused of defrauding over 100 victims by promising to secure work visas for Canada and Australia.
“Further inquiry has revealed the existence of other accomplices within the syndicate. Efforts are underway to apprehend these individuals and bring them to justice,” Hundeyin added.
Lagos State Commissioner of Police, CP Adegoke Fayoade, has urged the public to exercise caution and thoroughly verify the credibility of travel and recruitment agencies, particularly in matters relating to visa applications.
