Lagos Monarch Dethrones Six Chiefs Over Labour Party Campaign Attendance

The Ojora of Ijora and Iganmu Kingdom, Oba AbdulFatai Oyegbemi, has removed six chiefs from their positions for attending a Labour Party campaign event without his consent.

The monarch stated that the chiefs violated palace protocol by attending the campaign flag-off in the Apapa area of Lagos State and impersonating him during the political gathering.

The dethroned chiefs include Chief Lateef Ojora (Bale Alaba Oro), Chief Saliu Biliamin (Bale Alafia Dodoro), Chief Taiwo Hassan (Bale Oke Ira), Chief Idris Ojora (Bale Abule, Kere), Chief Hakeem Oseni (Bale Mosafejo Amukoko), and Chief Sule Balogun (Balogun of Abule Kere).

Following a palace meeting held on Monday, Oba Oyegbemi declared the chiefs’ actions unacceptable and a breach of their traditional duties.

A statement obtained on Tuesday reads: “Following the outcome of this event, which unfolded without his prior knowledge, Kabiyesi Ojora summoned the Bales, Balogun, and the Ojora Council to his ancient palace for clarification.

“In a tone marked by disappointment and authority, Kabiyesi stated that the chiefs’ actions were in violation of their duties. He reiterated that no chief should make decisions or act on his behalf without his explicit consent, as they all serve to represent him and uphold the traditions of the land.”

The monarch emphasized that the decision to dethrone the six chiefs reflects his commitment to maintaining discipline and unity within the leadership of the Ojora Kingdom.

During the meeting, Oba Oyegbemi also commended the current government’s development efforts in Ojora Land and pledged continued support for initiatives aimed at advancing the kingdom.

He concluded by highlighting the importance of transparency and cooperation between traditional authorities and political representation, reminding all chiefs of their responsibilities under the authority of the Ojora throne.
