Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, has applauded the Supreme Court of Nigeria for its landmark judgment which affirmed that the leadership of political parties remains an internal affair beyond the jurisdiction of any court.

Governor Otti, who spoke on Tuesday, April 8, 2025, when he received the leadership of the Labour Party (LP) in Abia State at his residence, described the ruling as a bold step towards restoring sanity and stability in the party following months of internal leadership crisis.

The visit was led by the Acting Chairman of the Abia State chapter of the Labour Party, Sir Emmanuel Nwaeze Otti, who presented a newly acquired Coaster bus purchased in the name of the party to the Governor.

While expressing gratitude to God for the resolution of the leadership tussle, Governor Otti commended the Supreme Court for reaffirming the principle that party leadership issues should be resolved internally without judicial interference.

I want to thank God for finally putting to rest the confusion that was created in the party,” Governor Otti said. “I also thank the Supreme Court for boldly declaring that party leadership is an internal affair of the party and that the court does not have jurisdiction over such matters.”

He further stated that with the judgment, the ownership of the party has reverted to its true stakeholders and members, and the National Executive Council (NEC) of the party would soon meet to chart a new course for its future.

Governor Otti also praised the Abia Labour Party leadership for demonstrating capacity and responsibility by acquiring the bus without seeking financial assistance from the government.

This is the type of Labour Party I want to see — a party that is an asset and not a liability to the government,” he said. “I congratulate and thank you for this achievement.”

Earlier, in his address, the Acting Chairman of the Labour Party in Abia State, Sir Emmanuel Nwaeze Otti, commended Governor Otti for his developmental strides and visionary leadership in the state. He said the bus project was part of efforts by the party leadership to reposition the Labour Party and enhance its operations in the state.

He assured that the current leadership of the party is focused on development and not on embezzlement or personal gain.

Present during the event were members of the State Working Committee of the party, including the Chairman of all Local Government Chairmen of the Labour Party in Abia.
