Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) star Kylian Mbappe has been left out of the team’s pre-season tour to Japan, as he continues to refuse signing a new contract.

Mbappe only has one year left on his current contract at PSG and has told them he won’t sign a new deal but doesn’t want to be sold this summer.

According to L’Equipe, the Ligue 1 champions have decided to leave him at home as they prepare for the upcoming season in Japan.

14 months ago it looked like the World Cup winner was set to leave the Parc des Princes with his contract expiring and Real Madrid heavily interested.

However, late on in the play, the Frenchman decided to sign a new deal at his club which was set to see him stay until the summer of 2025.

It was soon discovered that it wasn’t the complete truth with the deal only up until 2024 with the player having the option to extend it another year.

Earlier this summer the 24-year-old wrote a letter to the club to confirm that he would not be triggering the extra year, which he has until July 31st to do.

That has of course triggered the possibility of the forward leaving the Parisiens this summer, despite his desire to leave when his deal expires.

Real Madrid are once again the favourites to sign Mbappe, whether it happens in the current transfer window or in a year’s time.

He is reportedly holding on to leave in a year’s time because if he stays for the second year of his current deal then he’s owed a big bonus.

Whoever he signs a deal for next, the former Monaco star is said to want a similar clause to the one that helped Lionel Messi move to MLS.

The seven-time Ballon d’Or winner is earning money from the league’s deals with Adidas and Apple TV during his time in the USA.

In an added twist to the story of Mbappe missing out on the squad to Japan, new PSG boss Luis Enrique has included the forward’s 16-year-old brother Ethan in the squad.

The French champions will play Al Nassr, Cerezo Osaka, Inter Milan and the Japan national team on their tour to the Far East.
