Kwara NSCDC Foils Kidnap Attempt On School Children, Arrests Suspect

The Kwara State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, has foiled an alleged attempt to kidnap some school children returning from school in Ilorin, the state capital.

A 37-year-old suspect, Yusuf Ajala, was arrested in connection with the incident at Isale Asa, Opomalu area of Ilorin metropolis, at about 1 pm.

Briefing journalists in Ilorin, the state Commandant of NSCDC, Umar Mohammed, disclosed that “the suspect’s claim that he saw the victims on their way back from school and asked them to help him get dry fish was proved wrong by a discreet investigation.

“The investigation revealed that the suspect forcibly changed the direction of the children from their normal route home in an attempt to kidnap them.”

Umar reaffirmed the commitment of the command to ensure the safety and security of the lives and properties of citizens by cracking down on criminals and criminal activities in the state.

In another development, operatives of the command, on Tuesday apprehended two suspects, Susan Oyewole Oyenike, (F) 40yrs, and Anafi Isiaka, (M) 43yrs for allegedly printing fake expiry dates on expired Vita Energy Drinks products and selling the same to unsuspecting consumers.

Commandant Umar said the suspects were arrested by the Anti-Vandal Unit of the command at Amilegbe Area, beside Ipata Market in Ilorin at about 2 pm.

“On interrogation, Anafi confessed that he started the illicit business with Mrs Susan who has been the business owner since 2023 when she contacted him to work for her with the promise of a handsome reward.

“He revealed that they were actually into the business of printing fake expiry dates on Vita Milk Energy products,” he added.

Umar advised the public to be cautious about the products they consume, emphasizing the health risks posed by expired goods.

He added that the suspects would be charged to a court of competent jurisdiction for onward prosecution.
