Joe Igbokwe, a prominent member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos State, has condemned the ongoing violence in the South-East, accusing some individuals in the region of wrongly blaming Fulani herdsmen for the unrest.
In a Facebook post on Thursday, Igbokwe claimed that the violence and destruction were being carried out by fellow Igbos themselves.
“The blatant and pathological lies about the killings and destruction in the South-East can no longer stand. It is Igbo killing Igbo, Igbo destroying Igboland, and blaming Hausa/Fulani herdsmen. This is not our culture. This is sad,” he wrote.
Originally from Anambra State, Igbokwe is known for his outspoken views on issues concerning the Igbo community. He has consistently called for an end to what he describes as self-inflicted violence in the region.
In a separate post on Wednesday, Igbokwe also raised concerns about the rise of ethnic bigotry across Nigeria, describing it as a growing and dangerous trend.
“Ethnic bigotry is growing hopelessly like wildfire in Nigeria, and our eyes are not open to see the danger,” he warned.
“I pray that the veil covering our eyes will be removed so that we can see clearly. Make we de play ooo.”
His comments were reported by PUNCH Online, which noted similar concerns shared by other public figures regarding ethnic tensions in the country.
