Kidnapping Of ABSU Deputy VC Emezue Unfortunate — Gov. Otti

Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti has expressed regret over the abduction of a Deputy Vice Chancellor in Abia State University (ABSU), Prof. Godwin Emezue.

Emezue was abducted from a petrol station at Umuahia South Local Government Area of the State.

He was said to have driven into the station alongside his wife to buy fuel for their vehicle on Friday night, January 26 when the gunmen attacked them.

Reacting to the development at a media chat held at Government House, Umuahia on Thursday, the governor expressed regret over the varsity don’s abduction, saying he would soon be reunited with his family members.

The governor said, “It is very unfortunate that the deputy vice-chancellor was kidnapped in the center of town. It is not a usual occurrence but it happened, what the security agencies learnt from this is that they cannot let their guards down because something that is usual can always happen.

“We are already discussing and we are putting plans in place just to ensure that things like this will not happen anymore.

“From intelligence, it does appear that the kidnappers came from outside the state and they took him to somewhere outside the state, I believe that contacts have been made and we pray that very soon he be rejoined with his family.

“But we have taken note of that because it’s a security issue would not want to speak more than this.”
