The Katsina State Government on Saturday gave financial assistance to the tune of twenty million naira to families of deceased and injured security personnel who were victims of banditry.
The money was shared among thirty-three (33) deceased vigilant members’ families, two (2) soldiers, and one police officer alongside seven injured vigilant members.
The State Governor, Malam Dikko Radda, while distributing the money cash to the beneficiaries at the Katsina State Secretariat, explained that the families of those who have died in the course of fighting the bandits received support to the tune of N500,000 each while those who were injured received the support of N250,000 each.
Radda, who was represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Abdullahi Garba Faskari, recalled that the governor had during his campaign rally, promised to give security all the necessary attention it demands.

He maintained that the state government is taking care of all the medical bills of about 20 security personnel alongside 87 other members of the society affected by banditry who receiving medical treatment in various hospitals where forty (40) of them have so far been discharged.
He, therefore, appealed to residents in the state mostly those in the frontline communities not to relent in supporting the security agencies with prompt available information for urgent intervention and not to allow bad eggs to remain in the society.
“You may recall that the governor had during his campaign promised to give security all the necessary attention it demands and he kept his word when he created an office and appointed a senior special assistant to support him in giving the victims of banditry assistance.
“He also undertook to give all the necessary support and logistics to combat banditry in the state.
“What has been done today is to identify those affected by banditry, particularly from the vigilantes who have been complementing the efforts of the security agencies and so far today, about 33 number of them have been given support.
“Those who have died in the course of fighting the bandits, we are giving support to their families to the tune of N500,000 for each of the families, and those who were injured are being given the support of N250,000.
“Currently, there are about 20 security personnel in our various hospitals the government is taking care of all their bills and necessary support.
“The government is taking care of the medical bills and other needs of other members of the society. So far, we have about 87 people affected by banditry and were admitted into the hospital. Forty of them have been discharged.
“Besides, there are other security arrangements the state government has been doing since inception to date.
“We are appealing to the residents in the state mostly those in the frontline communities not to relent in supporting the security agencies with prompt available information for prompt intervention and not to allow bad eggs to remain in the society, ” he said.
