The Kano State Police Command has arrested 11 students of Government Boarding Secondary School, Bichi, in connection with the tragic deaths of two fellow students.
Police spokesperson Abdullahi Haruna confirmed the arrests in a statement to PUNCH Online on Thursday, stating that investigations are underway to determine each suspect’s level of involvement.
“Eleven students were arrested over the incident, and the investigation is ongoing to assess the extent of their individual roles,” Haruna said.
He assured the public that the police are committed to uncovering the truth and ensuring that all those responsible are prosecuted.
In response to the incident, the Kano State Commissioner for Education, Dr. Ali Haruna Makoda, ordered a thorough investigation on Wednesday.
The directive was delivered by the ministry’s permanent secretary, Bashir Bappa Mohammad, during an official visit to the school.
The deceased students, identified as Hamza Idris Tofawa and Umar Yusuf Dungurawa, were reportedly attacked by their peers using improvised metal weapons locally known as “Gwale-Gwale”.
