The Kano State Government has confirmed that the Emir of Kano, Muhammad Sanusi II, will lead the Eid-el-Fitr (Sallah) durbar in the state, amid heightened security concerns.
The Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Ibrahim Waiya, disclosed this in a statement on Wednesday, noting that the decision followed consultations with the Kano Emirate Council and other key stakeholders.
Waiya said intelligence reports had indicated plans by some individuals to disrupt the celebrations, prompting the government to introduce precautionary measures to ensure public safety.
He stressed that while the state remains committed to preserving its rich cultural heritage, it would not compromise on maintaining peace, law and order, and protecting lives and property.
According to him, the traditional Hawan Idi durbar will be led by Emir Sanusi, starting from the Kofar Mata Eid praying ground through designated routes to Gidan Shettima, and terminating at Kofar Fatalwa within the emir’s palace.
He added that the Hawan Nasarawa procession will be held in a modified format without horseback displays.
However, Waiya announced the suspension of other traditional events, including Hawan Daushe, Hawan Fanisau, and Hawan Dorayi, citing public safety concerns.
He said security agencies have been placed on high alert and directed to intensify surveillance before, during, and after the Sallah celebrations to ensure full compliance with the directives.
The commissioner urged residents to remain calm, law-abiding, and refrain from spreading unverified information, assuring that the government is committed to a peaceful and hitch-free Eid-el-Fitr celebration.
He also extended best wishes to Muslims in the state for a joyous Sallah.
