JUSUN Abia Suspends Strike After Agreement With Government

The Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria (JUSUN), Abia State Branch, has officially suspended its industrial action following a successful negotiation with the Abia State Government.

In a press release issued today, JUSUN announced that the strike suspension comes after the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the union and the government. The agreement includes the full payment of all outstanding arrears arising from the delayed implementation of the new minimum wage under the CONJUSS scale for judiciary workers, among other critical issues.

JUSUN expressed gratitude to the Abia State Government, led by Governor Dr. Alex Chioma Otti, OFR, for his prompt intervention and commitment to the welfare of judiciary workers. The union also acknowledged the support of the Honorable Chief Judge of Abia State, Justice Lilian Abai, the judiciary management, judges, the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), learned silks, and other key stakeholders who played a role in resolving the dispute.

The union praised its members for their patience and resilience, emphasizing that the suspension of the strike represents a major step towards achieving financial autonomy and judicial independence in the state. JUSUN also urged the government to fully implement all agreements in the MoU to strengthen the judiciary and enhance justice delivery in Abia State.

“We remain committed to ensuring that the judiciary is robust, corruption-free, and dedicated to delivering justice to all,” JUSUN stated.
