JUST IN: No Relaxation Of Lockdown Yet — Ikpeazu, Assures Abians More Palliatives

The Abia state governor, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu has said that the lockdown order in the State is still in force and subsists, maintaining that this has become imperative to enable the Government to explore ways of forestalling spread of the cases of COVID-19 in the State.

While urging all Abians to continue to obey the stay-at-home order, he emphasised that government is doing all in its power to contain the spread of the deadly virus in the state, adding that the government has also constituted Mobile Court in Umuahia, Aba and Ohafia to try and prosecute offenders of the lockdown order.

In a release made available to ABN TV, signed by the Secretary to Abia State Government/Chairman, Abia State Covid-19 Committee, Barr. Chris Ezem, the governor said Medical Protocol Experts are already actively handling the index cases while contact tracing is in progress, revealing that a total of 240 contact tracing has been carried and is still ongoing.

All public gatherings including but not limited to weddings, burials, religious worship at the churches and mosques, etc, remain suspended. Similarly, all our borders remain closed. The Security agencies, State, and Local Government Enforcement Teams are directed to continue to enforce this directive.

“As a matter of duty, Abians are advised to compulsorily wear their face masks, regular hand washing, use of sanitizers, and social distancing.

“Abians are reassured that distribution of government palliatives is still ongoing. This will no doubt cushion the effect of the lockdown.

“Finally, Government salutes the resilience of Ndi Abia and further solicits the cooperation and understanding of all and sundry as we collectively fight the COVID-19 pandemic in Abia State” he concluded.
