JAMB Detects Fingerprint Scams Across 19 CBT Centres

According to data made public by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) at its 2025 policy meeting on Tuesday, computer-based test centres in the states of Imo and Anambra were the most frequently found to be involved in finger pairing practices.

Nationwide, approximately 19 centres were implicated, with Anambra accounting for six; Imo with four; Abia and Edo with one each; Kano having two centres; and Ebonyi, Delta, Kaduna, Rivers, and Enugu states each having one centre involved.

The Registrar of JAMB, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, disclosed this during his presentation at a meeting held in Abuja on Tuesday with vice-chancellors, rectors, provosts, and other stakeholders.

He also highlighted other fraudulent activities, including impersonators making use of albinos for the purpose of image-bending, as well as remote uploads.

Meanwhile, the police have arraigned two individuals before the Federal High Court in Katsina on charges of impersonation and examination malpractice.

The police prosecutor, Abdussalam Danmaidaki, stated that the defendants, Bolanwu Emmanuel and Ibrahim Abdulaziz, allegedly committed the offence on April 30 at Zee Alpha International School, Funtua.

Danmaidaki said, “Emmanuel invited Abdulaziz into the exam hall to impersonate him and sit the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination on his behalf with registration number: 2025515278JA.”

He explained that the offence is punishable under sections 4(2)(a) and (b) and 4(3)(c) of the Examination Malpractice Act, Cap E15, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004.

The prosecutor added that Abdulaziz unlawfully and fraudulently presented himself as a UTME candidate and wrote the said exam under the name of Emmanuel with registration number 2025515278JA.

According to him, this offence falls under sections 3(1)(a) and (b) and 3(2)(c) of the Examination Malpractice Act, Cap E15, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004.

The defendants pleaded not guilty.

The prosecutor requested the court to grant time for the presentation of witnesses.

Justice Hussaini Dadan-Garba, the presiding judge, subsequently adjourned the case until July 18 for trial and the prosecution’s presentation of witnesses.
