Israel Successfully Intercepts Missile Launched from Yemen

Yemen’s Houthi rebels on Tuesday claimed responsibility for launching a missile at Israel’s Ben Gurion International Airport, a move they say was in support of Palestinians in Gaza.

In a video statement, Houthi military spokesperson Yahya Saree said the group fired a “Palestine 2” hypersonic ballistic missile at the airport.

The Israeli military later confirmed on social media platform X that the missile, launched from Yemen, was intercepted by the Israeli Air Force before reaching its target.

Since the outbreak of war in Gaza on October 7, 2023, the Iran-aligned Houthis have launched multiple missile and drone attacks toward Israel. Most of these have been intercepted, but they have triggered retaliatory Israeli airstrikes on Houthi positions in Yemen.

In addition to targeting Israel, the Houthis have also attacked commercial vessels in the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden, claiming links to Israel. These maritime attacks have led to repeated U.S.-led airstrikes against Houthi targets in response.
