Alexander Isak has informed Newcastle United of his desire to explore a move away from the club this summer, prompting the Magpies to reassess their attacking options ahead of the new season.
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano reported on Thursday that Liverpool remains interested in signing the Swedish striker, despite recently acquiring Hugo Ekitike. A potential deal for Isak, however, hinges on two key factors: Newcastle’s willingness to sanction his departure and whether Luis Díaz leaves Anfield.
“Understand Alexander Isak remains a target for Liverpool even after signing Ekitike… but it depends on Newcastle,” Romano wrote on X.
“If Newcastle open doors to an exit and #LFC sell Díaz, they can bid after direct contact was made 10 days ago.”
Romano also clarified that despite recent links to Saudi Arabian club Al Hilal, Isak is “not in concrete talks” with the team.
The 25-year-old forward, who joined Newcastle from Real Sociedad in 2022, has become a central figure at St. James’ Park. His potential departure would be a major shift for Eddie Howe’s squad as they look to remain competitive while evolving the team.
According to Romano and corroborating reports from the Daily Mail’s Craig Hope, Newcastle have already resumed their search for a top striker in anticipation of Isak’s possible exit.
While no final decision has been made, the club is reportedly considering its next steps as the transfer window progresses.
