IPOB Slams FG Over N500m Court Appearance Allegation Against Nnamdi Kanu

The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has condemned the reported expenditure of over N500 million by the Federal Government for each court appearance of its leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, describing it as a flagrant misuse of Nigerian taxpayers’ money.

In a statement issued by its Media and Publicity Secretary, Emma Powerful, IPOB described the expenses as a corrupt scheme to siphon public funds under the guise of legal proceedings.

“It is an outrageous travesty that every court appearance of our leader, a mere five-minute drive from the DSS dungeon where he is unjustly held, costs Nigerians over N500 million,” IPOB stated, alleging that security agencies and judicial officials were profiting from the process.

The group further claimed that since Kanu’s detention in June 2021, the government has spent approximately N5.5 billion on his court appearances. Despite these expenditures, IPOB said Kanu remains in custody under harsh conditions, even wearing the same outfit since his abduction.

IPOB called on the international community and human rights organizations to intervene, labeling the situation a “criminal enterprise masquerading as governance.”
