IPOB Proscription: Appeal Court Adjourns Till March 7 As Legal Team Makes Strong Statement

Barr. Aloy Ejimakor, special counsel to the embattled leader of Indigenous People of Biafra IPOB, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu has expressed dissatisfaction with the failure of the 3-man panel of Justices of the Appeal Court to meet on Wednesday to hear the appeal against the proscription of IPOB and the illegal detention of the IPOB leader.

The federal government had proscribed IPOB as a terrorist group earlier, a move that has been condemned as not following due process.

Speaking with ABN TV on Wednesday, Ejimakor said failure of the Justices to meet is unacceptable. He said the appeal on the proscription of IPOB has been pending since 2018.

While saying that the case of the IPOB leader was the number one in the list of cases scheduled for hearing today, he expressed surprise at the 11th-hour postponement of the case, saying he will apply for an accelerated hearing.

He said Nnamdi Kanu’s case should not be subjected to unnecessary delays typical of the Nigerian courts, saying he has been in detention since last year which according to him is unacceptable.

He assured that the legal team will do anything within the confines of the law to ensure that the prescription appeal as well as the incarceration of Nnamdi Kanu is heard.
