The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has counselled Minister of Information, Alhaji Lai Mohammed to desist from telling Nigerians to lie on the security situation in the country.
Incessant attack by Boko Haram terrorists has peaked in recent times with Babagana Zulum, Borno state governor suffering attacks on three occasions while his security aides were killed.
However, the Minister recently said his position in 2015 that Boko Haram had been technically defeated was based on what he saw on the ground when he led a team of local and international journalists to the epicentre of insurgency.
“I stand by what I said that Boko Haram is technically defeated. What we are having today is global terrorism where you have the ISIS, ISWAP Al-Qaeda all working together,”.
Speaking in a chat with Daily Independent, Kola Ologbondiyan, national publicity secretary of the PDP said the Minister has been economical with the truth on the issue of insecurity in the country.

“Alhaji Lai Mohammed is the Minister of Information. So, he will want to say what Mr President and the public will want to hear such as Boko Haram has been technically defeated. But Nigerians know the reality that the government of President Buhari has failed on its promise to secure our nation. That is the truth and how they want to receive it is a different thing entirely”.
“That is why many Nigerians including members of the National Assembly have appealed for a rejig of the security architecture of the country which they believe will go a long way in helping the security situation of the country. But the manifest failure of this government in the area of security is very clear for everyone to see”.
“Alhaji Lai Mohammed is only saying what the President wants to hear. He says anything to suit the government but Nigerians who know he is not saying the truth about the situation of things. That is why Nigerians are telling the President to take practical actions and take the issue of security more responsibly.’
