INSECURITY: “Abia Will Not Be Safe Haven For Criminals” – Otti As He Donates 20 Security Vehicles (Photos)

The Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, has presented 20 brand new Toyota Hilux trucks equipped with modern gadgets to security agencies in the state to bolster their operations and enhance safety.

The presentation took place at the International Conference Centre in Umuahia, where Governor Otti reiterated his administration’s commitment to prioritizing security since taking office. He emphasized that the state government recognized security as the foundation for development.

“When we assumed the leadership of this state eighteen months ago, we made it very clear that security was topmost on our agenda,” Otti stated. “We understood that every other thing we wanted to do would amount to nothing if security was compromised.”

The Governor explained that the provision of the vehicles aimed to ensure the seamless operations of security personnel in Abia State. He described the gesture as a way of appreciating the efforts of law enforcement agencies while equipping them to be more effective and efficient.

Highlighting achievements under his administration, Governor Otti recalled the successful launch of Operation Crush, an inter-agency initiative that has significantly improved security across the state, particularly in Isuikwuato and Umunneochi Local Government Areas. He noted that communities previously plagued by kidnapping and armed robbery have been reclaimed, enabling residents to return to their villages.

“People who could not access their villages for several years were able to spend Christmas in their homes last year,” the Governor remarked. “Since then, we have continued to ensure that Abia remains peaceful.”

While acknowledging isolated incidents involving criminal activities, Governor Otti reaffirmed his administration’s determination to tackle security challenges. He warned that Abia State would no longer serve as a haven for criminals.

“We have rejigged our security architecture and we repeat the warning that this state will not accommodate those who choose to operate outside the law,” he declared. The Governor further disclosed that several offenders have already been apprehended.

Dr. Otti also urged service commanders to ensure their personnel remain professional and refrain from criminal activities, including extorting residents. He expressed confidence in the security agencies and reaffirmed his government’s commitment to supporting their operations.

Responding on behalf of the security agencies, Brigadier General O.O. Diya, Commander of the 14 Brigade, Ohafia, expressed gratitude to the Governor for the vehicles and his unwavering support. He assured residents that security forces are fully committed to maintaining peace and urged citizens to cooperate with law enforcement to eradicate crime in Abia.

The event underscored the administration’s ongoing efforts to strengthen security infrastructure and ensure a safe environment for all residents of the state.
