Insecurity: Abia Lawmaker, Okoroafor Urges Police To Increase Efforts

Member representing Isuikwuato state constituency, Abia State House of Assembly, Hon. Barr. Emeka Okoroafor has urged the state command of the Nigeria Police and other security agencies to increase efforts in tackling the menace of insecurity in his constituency and across the state.

He accused the police of not demonstrating the much-needed commitment to curtail the growing cases of kidnapping, invasion of farmlands by Fulani herdsmen, and other security concerns.

The Abia Assembly deputy Minority Leader in a chat with ABN TV stated that the criminal gang operating between ABSU and Akara, particularly the cashew plantation area is a combination of Isuikwuato, Okigwe, and Ebonyi indigenes who enjoy the collaboration of the police to operate.

Hon. Okoroafor alleged that each time he confronts the police to fish out the criminal elements causing mayhem in the area, they instead advise him to tell the youths of his community who are unarmed to take charge of the security of the constituency.

According to the lawmaker who narrowly escaped being kidnapped in 2020, the gang operating around Nonya are vicious criminal Fulani herdsmen with few local collaborators who abduct for ransom.

He also accused the military of not being decisive in ending insecurity in Isuikwuato, wondering why the unambiguous entry and exit points are largely unmanned, a situation he said has given the kidnap kingpins leeway to operate unchallenged.
