The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, said it has no records of the Ogun State governorship and deputy governorship candidates of the Labour Party contesting the forthcoming 2023 election in the state.
The INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner in the state, Niyi Ijalaye, who disclosed this on Monday said the party did not submit any name of the candidate for the 26 House Assembly seats in the state.
He said “from the records available to us, Labour Party did not submit any name of their governorship and deputy governorship candidates to us.
“We also found out that they did not submit that of the House of Assembly.”
The commission had last Saturday released the names of 13 governorship and deputy governorship candidates of different political parties contesting the 2023 gubernatorial election.
The commission also released the names of House of Assembly candidates of various political parties.
Reacting to the development, the National Publicity Secretary of the party, Comrade Abayomi Arabambi, claimed the omission was an “administrative error”.
“Yes, I’m aware that Labour Party is missing on the list, but it is an administrative error on the part of the commission. We are going to Abuja tomorrow (Tuesday) to correct this”, Arabambi said.
But, Ijalaye while reacting to Arabambi’s claim, said from the records available to INEC in the state, that the party did not submit any candidate’s name for both governorship and deputy governorship seats in the state.
“Let them (Labour Party) go and correct it in Abuja because what I’m saying is that…my head office in Abuja was the one that forwarded these records to us so if there is an administrative error, it must be an error on their (Labour Party) part maybe they need to go and reconcile with them in Abuja,” Ijalaye said.
