The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has dismissed as false a graphic circulating online claiming that the commission fixed March 26 as the deadline for government officials intending to contest elections to resign from their positions.

In a public notice issued by the electoral body, INEC clarified that the information did not originate from the commission and described the viral graphic as fake and misleading.

The commission urged members of the public, media organisations, and political stakeholders to disregard the message entirely, stressing that it has not announced any such deadline.

INEC further advised Nigerians to rely only on its verified communication channels for authentic updates regarding electoral matters.

According to the commission, official information and announcements are released through its official website, verified social media platforms, and authorised press statements.

The electoral body also warned against the spread of unverified election-related information, noting that such content could mislead the public and create unnecessary confusion.

INEC reaffirmed its commitment to providing accurate, timely, and transparent information to citizens as the country continues preparations for future electoral activities.
