In Your Interest, Cancel The Planned Protest Now, Ikpeazu Tells Group

Abia State governor, Dr Okezie Ikpeazu has called on unnamed civil society group said to have planned a protest in Aba and Umuahia on Monday, 14th June, 2021, to reconsider their action, saying the prevailing security concerns in the region and country at large must be considered.

The Governor while further expressing concern that the state police command and other relevant security agencies have not been informed about the planned protest said it may be hijacked by hoodlums.

While warning that the state government will not tolerate any individual or group attempting to undermine the relative peace in the state, the governor in a statement issued by the Secretary to the State Government, Barrister Chris Ezem urged the organisers to shun the planned protest pending when proper security arrangements are firmed up with the police and other relevant security agencies to ensure the safety of the protesters.

“We are also aware that the organizers have not contacted the state police command or any other relevant agency to provide security for the planned rally thereby predisposing the event to the likelihood of being hijacked by hoodlums thereby possibly leading to the break down of law and order.

“In view of the above, we wish to appeal for cancellation of the planned rally pending when proper security arrangements are firmed up with the police and other relevant security agencies to ensure the safety of the protesters. We shall not tolerate any person or persons to undermine the relative peace we enjoy in Abia.

“Law abiding citizens and visitors are advised to go about their normal duties” the statement partly read.
