Imo Police Ban Use Of Mini-Buses, Tricycles For Patrols

The Imo State Police Command has officially prohibited the use of unmarked mini-buses and commercial tricycles for patrol duties throughout the state.

This directive, announced on Tuesday evening by Commissioner of Police Aboki Danjuma, comes in response to widespread public complaints regarding police tactical teams allegedly using such vehicles to harass, extort, and intimidate residents.

Commissioner Danjuma condemned these actions as highly unprofessional and issued a stern warning that any officer found violating the ban would face disciplinary measures.

The official statement reads, “The Commissioner of Police, Imo State Command, CP Aboki Danjuma, has issued a strict directive banning all tactical teams from conducting patrols in unmarked vehicles, including mini-buses and tricycles (Keke), across the state. This decision follows multiple reports of harassment, intimidation, and extortion by some officers operating unauthorized vehicles during routine patrols.

“The CP emphasized that such conduct is grossly unprofessional, and any team caught breaching this directive will be subject to immediate sanctions. Commanders of these teams will also be held responsible.”

In addition, the Imo Police Command reaffirmed its dedication to maintaining professionalism, accountability, and ethical policing, aligning with the vision of the Inspector General of Police.
