I’ll Only Testify In Kanu’s Trial If Court Summons Me – FCT Minister Wike

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has said he will only appear as a witness in the ongoing trial of the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, if he is formally subpoenaed by the court.

Wike made this known during his monthly media chat on Friday, responding to reports that Kanu had listed him among 23 witnesses he intends to call in his defense.

According to Wike, he was neither consulted nor served any court papers indicating his inclusion in the case.

“You don’t become a witness just by reading newspaper reports. Nobody has served me any legal process. If I am subpoenaed by the court, I will appear and fulfill my civic duty,” he said.

Wike emphasized that he never volunteered to be a witness and has no prior knowledge of why his name was included in the list. He added that he would respect the rule of law and respond accordingly if legally required to testify.

Mazi Nnamdi Kanu is expected to open his defense in the ongoing trial at the Federal High Court, Abuja, and has reportedly named several high-profile individuals—including Wike, former Defence Minister Gen. Theophilus Danjuma (retd), and former Chief of Army Staff Gen. Tukur Buratai (retd)—as intended witnesses.

The trial continues to generate significant national attention.
