Abia State Commissioner for Information, Chief John Okiyi Kalu has stated that the recent recognition of the state governor, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu as one of the outstanding governors in terms of security is an indication of his giant strides in the sector.
The Commissioner says Abia is in the top 5 most secured states in the country on the account of deliberate actions of the state government.
He revealed that since 2015 when the governor came on board, the state has not recorded any successful robbery case.
Speaking on Monday as a guest on current affairs programme, The Platform on Flo FM Umuahia monitored by ABN TV, Chief Kalu noted that the recent relaxation of the existing curfew in parts of the state follows an improvement in the security situation.

He informed that as the situations continue to improve, there will be a second review till a point when people of the state can go out freely to conduct their normal businesses without any threat.
“We thank God that for many years, under the watch of Governor Ikpeazu, we’ve largely been able to achieve that objective (security), leading to the award that the governor has won regarding one, security; as one of the best governors when it comes to security.
“And of course you know Abia is rated top 5 of the most secured states in Nigeria. Number two, we’ve had a very peaceful state. I keep saying to the glory of God since Governor Ikpeazu came on board, there hasn’t been any successful bank robbery in the state.
“It also speaks to the security architecture we have in place which is very robust, which is from bottom-up; at the community level, at the ward level, at the local government level and the state level, then you have the governor on top of the pyramid supervising,” he said.
The Commissioner called on hotel, nightclub, and bar owners to go about their lawful businesses, saying they are part of the state’s economy, maintaining that the government wants full participation to engender quick economic recovery.
Recall that accolades had greeted review of the curfew in parts of the state especially from the hospitality industry where the 8pm to 6am curfew was having a toll on their businesses.
They say as a night economy, the industry has come under heavy suffocation because of the security measures, having been last year locked down for several months as a result of the Covid-19 outbreak.
