Ikpeazu Promises Teachers, Other Workers Regular Payment Of Salaries, Improved Welfare

The Abia State governor, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu has promised the regular payment of salaries and wages to teachers and other workers in the state.

He made this assurance on Thursday when he played host to the National President of the Nigeria Union of Teachers, Dr Nasiru Idris and the General Secretary of the Union, Dr. Mike Ike Ene at Government House Umuahia.

While pledging his commitment to the welfare of teachers in the state, the Governor emphasized that with the reforms undertaken in the finances of the state, teachers and other workers in the State will get their regular monthly salaries as at when due while efforts have been finalized on how to systematically deal with the arrears of salaries.

In a statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Onyebuchi Ememanka, Ikpeazu assured that in the next couple of months, all arrears owed to teachers will be cleared while sustaining the regular monthly salaries.

The Governor expressed his gratitude to Abia teachers for their commitment and dedication which has kept the State on the top performing states list in WAEC exams in the country and restated his commitment to the improvement of their welfare.

Governor Ikpeazu restated his commitment to exposing our teachers to modern training which will enhance their abilities to perform better.

He thanked the National Leadership of the NUT for their support and understanding assuring them his administration and the NUT will remain partners in progress.

Earlier, the NUT National President, Dr. Nasiru Idris told the Governor that they were in the State to rub minds with the Governor on issues affecting teachers in the State.

Chief of Staff to the Governor, Dr. ACB Agbazuere joined the Governor in receiving the NUT leaders.
