Ikpeazu Charges Judiciary On Defence Of The Voiceless As Abia Gets Ag Customary Court Of Appeal President

Abia State Governor, Dr Okezie Ikpeazu has reminded members of the Judiciary that they play indispensable roles in stabilizing the country’s democracy and in defence of the voiceless in the society.

The Governor said that the duties of the judiciary in justice dispensation system in the State cannot be overemphasized.

He made this known during the swearing-in of Honorable Justice Okey Iyke Nwamuo as the Acting President of the Abia State Customary Court of Appeal

The governor charged him to give immediate attention to the general state of Customary Courts in Abia State.

The Oaths of Office and Allegiance were administered on the Acting President of the State Customary Court of Appeal, by the State Solicitor General, Lady Uzoamaka Ikonne at the Government House, Umuahia,

In a release made available to ABN TV by chief press secretary to the Governor, Onyebuchi Ememanka, he urged the Acting President of the Customary Court of Appeal to contribute his quota in the development of the State.

He thanked the immediate past President of the Customary Court of Appeal, Hon. Justice SMC Ururuka Onyenso for her contributions to the growth of a robust Customary Court system as well as the judiciary as a whole for its support to his administration, despite the fact that her tenure was short.

The statement read in part, “In his acceptance speech, the Acting President of the Abia State Customary Court of Appeal, Honorable Justice Okey Iyke Nwamuo thanked the Governor for the honour done him.

“He accepted that the task before him is an onerous one but achievable with the foundation already laid by his predecessors and commitment demonstrated by the Governor in matters concerning the judiciary He assured that the confidence reposed in him would be reciprocated as he would abide by the of his oath of office

“The appointment and swearing-in of the Acting President of the Abia State Customary Court of Appeal followed the retirement of Hon. Justice Stella Maris Chinedum Ururuka Onyenso upon the attainment of the mandatory retirement age of 65 years, two days ago.

“The State Chief Judge, Honorable Justice Onuoha Ogwe, Judges of the Abia State Judiciary, Secretary to Government, Barrister Chris Ezem, State Head of Service, Sir Onyi Wamah, Chief of Staff to the Governor, Prof-ACB Agbazuere, former Presidents of the Customary Court of Appeal, Retired Justices Anyalewechi Onwuchekwa and SMC Ururuka Onyenso, Chairman of the Abia State Law Reform Commission, Retired Justice K O Wosu, Magistrates and Chairmen of Customary Courts, Special Adviser to the Governor on Legal Matters, Chief Eze Chukwuemeka, as well as family members of the new Acting President.”
