The appointment of principal officers of the Polytechnic, Aba follows the recommendation of the Governing Council.

Other principal officers approved by the Governor are Oriaku Chinyere – Registrar, Omenihu Friday – Bursar, Ndulaka Chigozie – Librarian, and Nwogu Jude – Director of Works Services, a statement made available to ABN TV by Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Onyebuchi Ememanka says.

Governor Ikpeazu made the announcement when he received in audience the Chairman and Members of the Governing Council of the Polytechnic who were in Government House, Umuahia to present the report of the Council on the selection of principal officers of the institution.

Governor Ikpeazu charged the institution to remain consistent and stable in order to attract more students as well as to mount programmes that are relevant to the yearnings of the people in their catchment area.

While advising the institution to find ways to maintain industrial harmony and peace, he charged the Board and Management to look at ways of attracting funds independently through local and international support grants. He also charged them to sustain their collaboration with Tedfund to assist it financially to meet up with its mandate to increase its population.

The statement added, “The Governor assured that the State Government will continue to support the Institution through the payments of statutory subventions and will specifically assist the institution in the forthcoming accreditation of more of its courses. Governor Ikpeazu further commended the Council and management on job well done and their quick intervention that averted violence by their students last week as a result of a protest against a Police officer that allegedly raped one of their female students.

“Presenting the reports earlier, the Chairman, Governing Council of the Abia State Polytechnic, Aba, Elder John Nwangborogwu presented the report of the selection interview for the principal officers of the institution. He identified lack of due process in appointing principal officers as contributing to the challenges bedeviling the institution and informed that they followed due process by advertising the positions of principal officers and subsequently interviewing them.

“Elder Nwangborogwu also reported to the Governor their intervention on the protest which their students embarked upon, explaining that it was done because of the alleged rape of one of their female students by a Police officer and not for any other issue as peddled by some people. He thanked the Governor for his intervention for accreditation and urged him to sustain his support to them.

“The Honorable Commissioner for Finance, Dr Aham Ukoh and Special Adviser, Media to the Governor, Mr Ugochukwu Emezue were present at the event.”
