The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Olatunji Disu, has paid a courtesy visit to the Governor of Anambra State, Professor Charles Chukwuma Soludo, as part of activities marking the state’s second term inauguration ceremony.
The visit, which took place on March 18, 2026, at the Government House in Awka, was carried out on behalf of the IGP by the Deputy Inspector-General of Police in charge of the South East Zone, DIG Kenechukwu Onwuemelie.
During the meeting, Governor Soludo congratulated the IGP and the DIG on their appointments, noting that their leadership comes at a critical time when stronger security collaboration is needed to sustain peace and drive economic growth in Anambra State.
The governor stressed the importance of continued synergy between the Nigeria Police Force and the state government, assuring the police of his administration’s full support in strengthening security architecture and enhancing public safety across the state.
Governor Soludo also raised concerns over traditional leadership disputes in parts of the state, particularly in Awka, and called for police support in enforcing outcomes from panels of inquiry set up to address such issues.
Responding, DIG Onwuemelie, speaking on behalf of the Inspector-General of Police, appreciated the warm reception and reaffirmed the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to strengthening strategic partnerships with the Anambra State Government and other security stakeholders.
He emphasized that the police remain dedicated to protecting lives and property, as well as ensuring peace and stability across Anambra State and the wider South East region.
The DIG was accompanied on the visit by the Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, CP Ikioye Orutugu.
The visit highlights ongoing efforts by the Nigeria Police Force to deepen collaboration with state authorities in promoting sustained peace, security, and public safety.
