Igbere Community Rejoices As Sen. Kalu Doles Out Food Items, Cash, Says It Has Been Happening Since 32 Years (Photos, Video)

Senator representing Abia North Senatorial district, Sen. Orji Uzor Kalu has brought smiles on the faces of his people as he commences distributed several thousands of bags of rice to locals in his Igbere community, Bende local government area of Abia State.

The items distributed include rice and other condiments.

Among the communities who benefited from Orji Kalu’s usual magnanimity were; Ibina-ukwu, Ama-ukwu, Ama-ofufe, Amankalu, Ibinanta, Umuisi, Amaukwu, all in Igbere, Bende LGA of Abia State.

Addressing newsmen on Tuesday, Kalu likened the thirteen (13) communities which comprise 30,000 people live like “one big family” where no one is allowed to starve, whatsoever.

He said the distribution of thousands of bags of rice has been happening in the last 32 years, describing it as a customary.

Commenting on the political issues in Abia, the Senate Chief Whip urged political office seekers to be peaceful in their quest and maintain unity, noting that development can only take place in a peaceful environment.

While noting that the ongoing registration of voters may have progressed in a slow pace because of security concerns which leads to early closing by INEC officials, he appealed to the INEC chairman, Mahmud Yakubu to extend the registration to September and October to allow more people enroll.

He noted that he is a firm believer in the unity of Nigeria, stating that every component of the country is important to make the union of Nigeria more workable.
