Ifeanyi Uchendu Remains Deputy Speaker, Mandela Obasi Not Known – Hon. Chukwu, Others Insist

The Minority Leader of Abia State Assembly, Hon. Chijioke Chukwu along with his colleagues, including Hon. Mike Ukoha, Hon. Aaron Uzodike, and others have said there is no resolution to change the Deputy Speaker of the Assembly, Rt. Hon. Ifeanyi Uchendu.

This is in disagreement with a statement released by the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Chinedum Orji who said the Deputy Speaker remains removed from office while he has been replaced with Hon. Mandela Obasi.

Hon. Chukwu and his colleagues said the peaceful resolution of the crisis rocking the Assembly did not include the recognition of Hon. Obasi as Deputy Speaker.

They confirmed that members of the House from the two divides had met to resolve the crisis rocking the House and noted that agreement was that everyone SHOULD return to status quo in their next sitting tomorrow being May 26th, 2023.

They explained that the statement flying round the media space to the effect that Rt. Hon. Uchendu remains removed does not reflect the agreement the house reached during a reconcilatory meeting.

In Chukwu’s words, “If we are sincere about a peaceful resolution of the house, it means that EVERYONE must return to status quo as agreed and that means that Rt. Hon. Ifeanyi Uchendu remains the Deputy Speaker of the House.

“Hon. Mandela Obasi cannot be the Deputy Speaker when the authentic Deputy Speaker is there”.
