Class of 1994, Ibeku High School Umuahia has officially handed over a 10 units toilet, toiletries, cleaning utensils, and a generating set to the school as a way of improving the sanitary condition of the school, ABN TV reports.
The National President of Old Students Association of the school, Mr. Igwe James while addressing the students during the grand opening of the facility encouraged them to cultivate the attitude of constantly keeping in touch with the school when they graduate.
He also appealed to other alumni sets to look out for other areas to contribute to the school to further give it a facelift.
In his comment, one of the members of the class of 94 sets, Mazi Chinagorom Ibe said “The 94 set under the leadership of Dr. Uchechukwu Iberim Acho who is in Australia, we discussed and said let’s give back to the school that made us who we are today.
“We asked what can we do for the school, so we approached the school, the management said that they are in dire need of a modern toilet facility.
“We came back, sat down discussed it, made a presentation, and the set accepted and agreed. We decided that to celebrate our 25th years of leaving the school we will use the toilet to celebrate it, but due to the COVID-19 outbreak we were not able to meet up but today we decided to hand over the toilet”.
Speaking with ABN TV, the Principal of the Junior Section of Ibeku High School, Mrs. Erinma Dike expressed joy and prayed for God’s blessings on the class 94 set.
She noted that the school has been in dire need of a toilet for such a long time, noting that it became a major setback in the school’s academic activities.
She also revealed that the challenge has led to series of rape and attacks on the students as they resorted to answering nature calls in nearby forests.
