Chinedu Onyeizu, the Labour Party’s candidate in the February 25 Abia South Senatorial election, has finally filed his appeal at the Court of Appeal in Owerri, requesting to be proclaimed the poll’s winner.
In a petition filed on July 13 before the Appellate Court’s Owerri Division, the LP candidate, Onyeizu, claimed that he defeated Senator Abaribe of the All Progressives Congress, APGA, during the election.
He also expressed disappointment with Panel 1 of the National Assembly election petitions tribunal, which dismissed his petition on technicalities rather than considering the merits of his case.
“The decision of the Panel is totally unacceptable to me because I am so convinced that I defeated Senator Abaribe,” he said while appealing to his supporters to remain calm and await the outcome of his Appeal Court case.
During one of the Panel’s sessions, Onyeizu caused a commotion by claiming that he had lost faith in the Panel and that it was already compromised.
