Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate, has stated that he will not accept any offer to serve in Bola Tinubu’s Government of National Unity.
Obi has taken Tinubu, the president-elect, and his party, the All Progressives Congress (APC), to court over the outcome of the February 25 election.
The APC candidate’s campaign said that the former Lagos Governor would build an all-inclusive administration that would include all of his opponents.
On Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily on Thursday, Obi was asked what he would do if he was asked to join Tinubu’s Government of National Unity.
In his statement, Obi stated he was still contesting the election and declaration processes.
Before anyone could talk about the Government of National Unity, he said, the election process needed to be perfected.
“The first thing I want to make sure of is that the procedure is correct. The process through which you achieve something is considerably more important than what you do afterward. First, let me state I am questioning the procedure and the pronouncement.”
“Unless we get it right, then we can talk about a government of national unity. Alternatively, we would sit down and explain that individuals who stopped a train and kidnapped people are welcome to contact us to discuss peace when they have people in captive.”
“Unless we get things right, we’ll be encouraging things we don’t need to encourage,” he added.
When asked if he would accept the verdict if it did not favor him, Obi stated he would be stunned if the court upheld Tinubu’s election.
