The family of late Mrs. Nwandinma Dickson, popularly known as “Nwanyi Garri”, has recounted her final words before she left home for the 2025 annual August Meeting in Ugwunagbo Local Government Area, Abia State — an outing that turned tragic after she slumped and died during a performance.

Speaking exclusively to ABN TV, her son, Pastor Dickson, narrated that his mother was full of excitement about meeting and entertaining high-profile dignitaries, especially Mrs. Priscilla Otti, wife of the Abia State Governor and convener of the event.

“I am going to entertain high-profile dignitaries this year. I have packaged myself to entertain our First Lady, Mrs. Priscilla Otti. I want to meet her one-on-one today and greet her for what the husband has done for Abia,” she reportedly told her family before leaving home.

Unknown to them, those words would be her last.

Mrs. Dickson, who hails from Oza Umuebukwu in Nneji Autonomous Community, Ugwunagbo, collapsed mid-performance while thrilling the audience with her theatrics. Many initially thought it was part of her drama until she failed to get up. She was later rushed to the hospital by the Mayor of Ugwunagbo but was pronounced dead on arrival.

Her sudden death has left her family, friends, and the entire Ugwunagbo community in deep shock. What was meant to be a moment of cultural display and joy has now turned into a painful memory for her loved ones.

The late “Nwanyi Garri” is remembered for her lively performances and deep passion for using art to celebrate her community.

  1. Chai!! This is very pathetic. May her soul rest in Peace. At least she was able to entertain the Governor’s Wife. She has fulfilled her life ambition.
I urge the first lady to make sure she partakes in the burial of Nwamyi Garri. And I wish the family to keep calm and understand that mummy was a fulfilled mother.
