I Didn’t Divert N10bn Abia Airport Funds, I Reallocated It For Greater Good – Ikpeazu [Video]

Former Abia State Governor, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu, has responded to allegations of diverting N10 billion meant for the construction of an airport in Aba, stating that as the then-executive leader, his decision to reprioritize the funds was within his authority.

In an interview monitored by ABN TV, Ikpeazu explained that the initial plan to build an airport was put on hold due to the deplorable state of roads connecting major markets in Aba. Instead, the funds were used to complete critical road projects, including Eziukwu Road, Faulks Road, Ngwa Road, and Osusu Road, which now provide interconnectivity between markets.

Ikpeazu argued that the N10 billion would not have been sufficient to complete the airport project and would have been tied up in a potentially unviable venture, citing examples of underutilized airports in the country.

He dismissed allegations of diverting funds to 32 accounts, stating that contractors who executed various projects received the money, and challenged the current government to investigate and prove any wrongdoing.

The former governor listed additional projects completed with the fund, including Ejike Lane and Milverton Avenue, emphasizing that his administration’s decision prioritized the needs of the people.

Ikpeazu’s response aims to clarify the controversy surrounding the Abia Airport fund, asserting that his executive decision was made in the best interest of the state’s development.
