Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, has refuted claims suggesting he is planning to defect to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
In a statement released on Saturday, April 26, 2025, by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ferdinand Ekeoma and made available to ABN TV, Governor Otti described the report as “false, baseless and unfounded,” urging members of the public to disregard it.
According to the statement, Governor Otti did not hold any political meeting with Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodinma, as alleged. Instead, after attending the National Economic Council (NEC) meeting on Thursday, April 24, Otti and a few of his colleagues joined Governor Uzodinma for a private birthday celebration of his twin daughters — an event Ekeoma stressed had no political undertones.
Ekeoma noted that Governor Otti’s rising popularity and outstanding performance in Abia State have naturally attracted admiration and political speculations from various quarters. However, he assured that any major political decision involving Governor Otti would always be made in consultation with the people of Abia State and his political allies.
“Governor Otti remains a committed member of the Labour Party and is not discussing or planning any defection to the APC or any other political party,” Ekeoma emphasized.
He added that Governor Otti believes it would be unfair to the Abia electorate for political discussions about the 2027 elections to overshadow the focus on governance, less than two years into his administration.
Governor Otti, the statement concluded, remains dedicated to providing quality leadership and good governance to the people of Abia State.
