Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has assured his supporters that victory is inevitable despite the ongoing political turmoil in the state.
Speaking on Monday during the commissioning of the Government House Staff Quarters at Forces Avenue, opposite the Government House in Port Harcourt, Governor Fubara emphasized that the struggle in Rivers State is not just about politics but about standing for truth and justice.
Quoting from Philippians 3:18-19, the governor underscored the importance of faith and resilience, declaring, “Despite everything, victory is sure.”
Amid rising political tension, Governor Fubara made a bold declaration that he would not hesitate to make the ultimate sacrifice if necessary to protect the interests of Rivers people.
“It must be on record that Rivers State is my top priority. If it requires me to pay the supreme price, I will not hesitate,” he stated.
He further emphasized that his administration stands for peace but will not tolerate any attempt to destabilize the state.
“No matter how much we have been deceived in this state, the time has come for Rivers people to take their destinies into their own hands,“ he asserted.
Meanwhile, the Martins Amaewhule-led Rivers State House of Assembly has issued a 48-hour ultimatum to Governor Fubara, demanding that he present the 2025 Appropriation Bill without delay.
Citing a Supreme Court ruling that halted statutory federal allocations to the state pending the passage of the budget, the lawmakers insisted that urgent action was needed to prevent a financial crisis.
“We do not want Rivers people to suffer. We, therefore, urge you to do the needful in the best interest of the good people of Rivers State,” read a letter signed by Speaker Martins Amaewhule.
The Assembly also announced plans to amend the Rivers State Local Government Law No. 5 of 2018 and the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission Law No. 2 of 2018 to align them with the Electoral Act, paving the way for fresh local government elections.
As the crisis escalates, Governor Fubara remains defiant, insisting that “the course of governance is irreversible” and that he will complete his tenure with honor and integrity.
With the Assembly pushing for budget approval and impeachment threats looming, the coming days will be crucial for the stability of Rivers State. All eyes are now on the next move of both the executive and legislative arms of government.
