The Abia State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) says it has become a born-again party after all the bad elements in it have packed their baggage and left, joining either the governing party in the state Labour Party or the APC the national governing party.

Speaking with ABN TV in Umuahia, a chieftain of the PDP and a former Commissioner for Information, Chief John Okiyi Kalu said the party is better in the absence of the people he said are seeking refuge because of things they have to hide as well as those who are hungry, looking for opportunities to feed from the table of government in power.

“Majority of the bad people we used to know in PDP, according to you people are now in APC and Labour Party, so PDP is now born-again, only those with self-confidence and integrity are now in PDP, only those who have nothing to hide are still in PDP.

“Let me be clear on this, when there is a change of government, what people do is, if you’re hungry, and you need to eat from government, you rush to government in power. Again, if you have something to hide, you also rush to the party in power for protection. So all those that are hungry or have something to hide have all deserted PDP”, he said.

He said top among them is the Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti who was a PDP member in Arochukwu, whom he described as the former chief banker of the state’s FAAC, saying the governor should know where the dead bodies are buried.

He said Abians now know if they were better off under the PDP government or under the current leadership of the Labour Party, saying PDP never told Abians that it completed 108 roads without listing them, and that PDP never told Abians that it has done a recreational centre worth N6.5bn without showing it, and never told Abians it did ICT centre of N2.4bn without showing it.

He also accused the Labour Party government of inflating road projects in the state yet highly substandard.

Kalu said a lot of PDP members betrayed the party in the last election, noting that out of sense of guilt, they left the party as they can’t live together with the same family they betrayed.

He wondered why a former President of the Senate, Adolphus Wabara is still in PDP, accusing him of losing his polling unit in the last election and openly campaigning against the governorship candidate of the party then.

He said the rejuvenated PDP is ready to participate in the Nov. 2 local government election to prove that the party has structures across the state.
