‘Hunger, Injustice Threaten Nigeria’s Stability’ – Bishop Onuoha

Bishop Sunday Onuoha, Founder and President of Vision Africa International and Co-Chair of the Interfaith Dialogue Forum for Peace, has raised alarm over the worsening socio-economic conditions in Nigeria.

Speaking to journalists in Umuahia, the cleric lamented the growing wealth gap and widespread hunger, describing them as glaring injustices that demand urgent government intervention.

“When you see the number of people dying because they can’t find food, it’s a glaring injustice,” Bishop Onuoha stated, decrying the hardship faced by millions of Nigerians. He criticized the hoarding of public funds by a privileged few, which he said further deepens inequality and fuels resentment among the masses.

The cleric warned of the dire consequences if these issues are not addressed. “This is the time for the country to know that the poor are angry and hungry. If the poor rise, no one can stand it,” he cautioned, emphasizing that an uprising by the impoverished could destabilize the nation.

Bishop Onuoha called on the government to take decisive steps to alleviate the suffering of citizens and bridge the gap between the wealthy elite and the struggling masses. According to him, failure to act swiftly could result in a social revolt that would be difficult to contain.

The bishop’s remarks come amid increasing economic challenges in the country, with many Nigerians grappling with inflation, unemployment, and a lack of basic necessities. His call for justice and equity underscores the urgent need for policies that address the root causes of poverty and ensure inclusive development.
