Horse Rider Tramples Man To Death In Jigawa

The Jigawa State Police Command claimed it apprehended Muhammad Mustapha, a horse rider, who allegedly trampled to death a 70-year-old cyclist, Umar Hassan, in Jigawa State’s Ringim Local Government Area.

DSP Lawan Shiisu Adam, the command’s Public Relations Officer, confirmed the event in a press statement on Monday, saying the suspect, 25, a resident of Unguwar Maina in Ringim municipality, was riding a horse without permission.

According to the statement, he allegedly lost control and tramped on the 70-year-old man, who lived in Galadanchi quarters at Tsigi Quarters in Ringim LGA.

The biker sustained varied degrees of injuries and fractures to his left leg and shoulder as a result of the accident.

“A team of policemen promptly besieged the scene and rushed the victim to Ringim General Hospital, where he died while receiving treatment,” the statement said.

The victim’s remains have already been sent to relatives for burial, while the suspect was apprehended and is currently being held in police custody.

According to the PPRO, the suspect will be charged in court after a thorough investigation.

To prevent repeat instances, the state’s Commissioner of Police, CP Effiom Emmanuel Ekot, has encouraged parents to caution their children to refrain from unlawful horse riding throughout the state, as the command will not hesitate to prosecute anyone who violates the mandate.
