Hoodlums Attack, Try To Burn Down INEC office

Hoodlums attacked the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) local government office in Kano state’s Takai local government area.

The hoodlums also attempted to set fire to the commission’s office as a fight broke out between political supporters at Takai town’s headquarters on Sunday morning.

“The fire was set up from behind the building but it was quenched before it made serious damage and security operatives disperse the crowd.”

“However, some people sustained injuries from the fracas that initially broke out; but they have been taken to the hospital for treatment while four persons have been reportedly killed.” a local who witnessed the incident said.

According to another source, the scuffle erupted as a result of problems with the LGA’s results collation.

SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, the Police Public Relations Officer in Kano, confirmed the incident when contacted.

He stated that the fire started behind the office building at the generator house, but it was quickly extinguished.

“It was from the generator house that they put out the fire. It was hurriedly brought under control and security operatives have been intensified in the area,” he said.

Kiyawa, however, said he was not aware of the loss of lives
