The Member representing Arochukwu/Ohafia Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Chief Ibe Okwara Osonwa, has announced a forthcoming Empowerment and Poverty Alleviation Programme aimed at improving livelihoods and supporting vulnerable households across the constituency.
Hon. Osonwa said the initiative is designed to widen income opportunities, strengthen small businesses, and provide direct economic support to youths, widows, farmers, artisans, and traders within the constituency.
According to him, the programme builds on previous interventions already implemented in the area, including ICT training and empowerment initiatives, digital reskilling programmes for teachers, financial support for widows and women, and scholarship opportunities for students.
He noted that the overall objective remains to equip constituents with practical skills, tools, and structured assistance capable of translating into sustainable economic value and long-term financial stability.
The lawmaker emphasized that real economic growth must occur at multiple levels simultaneously, explaining that while efforts continue to attract broader infrastructure and development opportunities, targeted empowerment programmes provide immediate relief by boosting household income and stimulating grassroots economic activity.
Items to be distributed under the scheme include vehicles, tricycles, motorcycles, sewing and grinding machines, barbing equipment, deep freezers, generators, farm and pumping machines, and pressure-washing machines, among others.
The programme is expected to commence soon, raising hopes among residents who view the intervention as a significant step toward inclusive development and poverty reduction in Arochukwu/Ohafia Federal Constituency, Abia State.
