Hon. Ibe Osonwa Graces 2025 Iri-Ji Ohamoha Festival, Applauds Organizers For Preserving Ohafia Heritage (Photos)

The Federal House of Representatives Member representing Arochukwu/Ohafia Federal Constituency, Hon. Ibe Okwara Osonwa, on Saturday, October 25, 2025, joined the people of Ohafia South to celebrate this year’s Iri-Ji Ohamoha Ohafia New Yam Festival, an age-long cultural event that symbolizes thanksgiving and unity among the Ohafia people.

The colorful celebration, held at the Ohafia Central School Field, attracted prominent dignitaries including His Excellency, Engr. Ikechukwu Emetu, Deputy Governor of Abia State; the Mayor of Ohafia LGA, Chief Eleanya Ojuu Kalu; and former Mayor of Ohafia LGA, Chief David Ogba Onuoha (Bourdex), among several other distinguished guests.

In his remarks, Hon. Osonwa commended the organizers of the festival for their dedication to preserving the cultural heritage and traditions of the Ohafia people. He noted that the Iri-Ji festival is not just a celebration of the new yam harvest but also a reminder of the community’s resilience, unity, and deep spiritual connection with the land.

He reaffirmed his commitment to supporting initiatives that promote culture, peace, and sustainable development across Ohafia and the entire Arochukwu/Ohafia Federal Constituency. According to him, cultural preservation is key to community identity and cohesion, especially in times of rapid modernization.
