Hon. Amobi Ogah’s Federal School Of Nursing & Midwifery, Uturu Bill Clears First Reading

The Federal School of Nursing and Midwifery, Uturu, Abia State (Establishment) Bill, 2024, sponsored by Hon. Amobi Godwin Ogah, successfully passed its first reading at the House of Representatives.

Hon. Ogah, who represents the Isuikwuato/Umunneochi Federal Constituency, championed the bill, officially designated as HB.2006, to establish the Federal School of Nursing and Midwifery in Uturu, Abia State. The proposed institution aims to provide specialized training in nursing and midwifery, addressing the critical shortage of healthcare professionals in Nigeria while promoting research, professional development, and excellence in the sector.

The legislation details the establishment of the institution, its objectives, governing council, academic board, and management structures. It also specifies guidelines for staffing, funding, and disciplinary measures to ensure the smooth operation of the school.

Speaking on the bill, Hon. Ogah emphasized its significance in transforming healthcare education in Nigeria and improving access to well-trained professionals capable of delivering quality healthcare services. “This bill is a step towards ensuring that we have a robust system to train competent nurses and midwives, which will, in turn, improve our nation’s healthcare delivery,” he said.
