Herders Bende Invasion: We Did Not Detain Any Traditional Ruler — Abia Police

Abia state police command has said it’s not detaining any traditional from Bende local government area of the state regarding the alleged invasion of Uzuakoli community by Fulani herdsmen which reportedly led to the killing of 15 cows.

Reports filtered in that some traditional rulers from the area were arrested over the development, a report which the police say is not true.

Police Public Relations Officer in Abia, Mr. Geoffrey Ogbonna in a chat with ABN TV while admitting that some persons were invited for questioning and later released over the matter insisted that Eze John Akaniro, the Traditional Ruler in whose domain the cows were allegedly killed was never arrested.

While calling on members of the public to disregard such rumours, Mr. Ogbonna reiterated the commitment of the command under CP Janet Agbede to ensure the protection of Abians with active support of the traditional institution.

Recall that many prominent Abians have engaged in fence-mending with herdsmen whose cow were killed in the incident.

Among the first callers was the member representing Bende federal constituency, Hon. Benjamin Kalu volunteered to offset the hospital bill of a herder, Mr. Abdullahi who was injured during the attack.

The police had since denied the alleged burning of settlement said to belong to Fulani herdsmen, saying nothing of such ever took place.
