Tragedy struck the football community as Heartland FC Head Coach Christian Obi died in a bus accident on the way to a pre-season tournament in Ebonyi State.
ABN TV reports that the bus carrying players and crew collided with a carelessly parked vehicle, resulting in Obi’s fatal injuries. Other casualties were reported, but no further deaths have been confirmed.
Obi, a Nigerian football legend, represented the country in the U20 World Cup and Seoul Olympics.
He led Heartland FC to an unbeaten run from the NNL to the Nigeria Premier Football League last season.
The club has requested privacy as they navigate this difficult situation.
