The Deputy Commander of Ozubulu Vigilante Group in Ekwusigo LGA of Anambra state identified as G.O.D alongside a woman and two other young men have been reportedly shot dead by gun men on Sunday, 9/5/2021.
The assailants also set ablaze some operational vehicles of the vigilante group and the Ozubulu Vigilante Head office located at Udorji road.
An eye witness, Mr Ifeanyi who is an indigene of the community said that the incident happened between 4:30pm and 6pm.
Narrating the incident, Mr Iwuchukwu said that the gun men came with a Toyota Sienna vehicle and shot sporadically which resulted in the death of the victims.
Mr Iwuchukwu who said he was watching from a distance confirmed that he witnessed one of the detainees zoom off with the attackers while others escaped.
The Commander Ozubulu Vigilante Group, Mr Jude Ononuju who also confirmed the incident to the ABS said that they are suspecting the attack to have come from the gang members of one of the detainees who earlier made a call disclosing his location over the phone. He said he though the call was to people coming to sign his bail bond.
Although he was not at the office at the time of the incident, but he gathered that the incident took place in less than 25mins after the call made by the undisclosed young man who has been in their custody.
ABN TV also visited Ozubulu police station where a similar attack took place but was unsuccessful, although the attackers set ablaze a Toyota Corolla parked in front of the police station.
In a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, Anambra State Police Command, Dsp Ikenga Tochi, Investigation is ongoing and efforts are in top gear to arrest the perpetrators.
