A group of heavily armed kidnappers invaded Grow Homes Estate in the Chikakore area of Kubwa, Abuja’s largest suburb, holding residents hostage for over an hour in the early hours of Monday morning.

According to frightened residents, the attack took place between midnight and 1:30 a.m. One eyewitness reported seeing a man and a woman being abducted by the kidnappers.

By daybreak, the woman was found inside the estate, having been released by her captors for reasons yet unknown. The fate and number of other abducted victims remain unclear at this time.

A resident described the terrifying ordeal: “The incident happened around 12 a.m. The kidnappers were heavily armed and overpowered the local vigilance team.”

The police reportedly arrived around 1 a.m., leading to a fierce 30-minute gunfight with the kidnappers.

Residents are urging the government to improve road access for security vehicles and to establish a police station within the estate to ensure faster emergency response.

“We are pleading with the police and the FCT Administration to help set up a station here for rapid response. The road needs fixing for easier patrols,” one resident appealed.
